JJ Redick, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, has clarified his comments regarding the team’s limited ‘margin for error.’ Following the Lakers’ 118-108 victory over the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center, Redick emphasized that his remarks were not aimed at the roster itself.
Redick explained, “What I was kinda getting at wasn’t our roster. What I was getting at was the nature of how we play, through our best players, and not having necessarily a Stephen Curry on our roster that can generate 10 to 12 threes a game. I was focusing on the math more than anything.”

He continued, “What I would say is that in the last two games, our three best players have performed exceptionally well. Everyone else has excelled in their roles, and that’s what defines a great team. (It) involves guys shining in their specific roles; for example, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Max Christie, Jaxson Hayes, all those guys, including Dorian Finney-Smith. That distinction gives us the opportunity to emerge as a great team.”
The Lakers, with just one loss against the Los Angeles Clippers, have recorded five victories in their last six contests. Redick previously mentioned after the matchup with the Clippers that the Lakers lacked significant leeway. Lately, the team has exhibited strong synergy and performance, and Redick hopes this trend continues when they face the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
JJ Redick Responds Bluntly To Locker Room Vibes After Anthony Davis Calls For Lakers To Get A Center
On Thursday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Anthony Davis feels the Los Angeles Lakers “need another big.” Davis indicated that he performs at his best when positioned as a power forward alongside another center. When asked how this expressed need for a center impacts the locker room dynamics, Lakers coach JJ Redick offered a succinct response.
During the discussion, Anthony Davis pointed out the “ideal construction” of the 2020 championship team. He emphasized that the Lakers’ size allowed him to work effectively as a power forward, which he regards as his “natural spot.” Currently, with a record of 25-18 following their match against the Warriors, the Lakers stand fifth in the Western Conference, having a two-game lead over the Warriors, who sit at 11th place.
