Dalton Knecht launched his NBA career as the 17th overall selection in last year’s draft. During his rookie season, he has had the distinct opportunity to learn directly from LeBron James, a player who continues to innovate what longevity looks like in professional basketball.
While LeBron approaches the latter stages of his illustrious career, Knecht remains optimistic that his teammate isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In a recent chat with TMZ, the young Lakers guard expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of playing alongside James for many more years.
“He said he can play another 5, 10 years. So, me and ‘Bron could run it for another five, 10 years. Why not?!” Knecht remarked.

Interestingly, Knecht’s future with the Lakers came close to a midseason change. Reports indicated that Los Angeles considered trading him to acquire Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams.
However, the trade didn’t materialize after Williams failed a physical examination. With his position now secure and confidence on the rise, Knecht looks forward to expanding his role alongside a basketball legend.
Jovan Buha Discusses Dalton Knecht as a Trade Asset in Lakers’ Pursuit of Upgrades
In a recent episode of “Buha’s Block,” NBA insider Jovan Buha provided an insightful outlook on Dalton Knecht’s anticipated role in the Lakers’ upcoming season. Although Knecht demonstrated promise during his rookie campaign, Buha suggested that the young guard may not have a substantial role in the team’s rotation going forward.
“Basically, it comes down to the Lakers only having so many assets to trade, and Dalton Knecht, I think, at best next season is an eighth man and probably is an eighth, ninth man. When considering the Lakers’ efforts to acquire a starting center or wing, you need to give something up to get that player,” Buha commented.
In his inaugural season, Knecht participated in 78 regular season games, averaging 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. The future looks promising for the Lakers’ young talent.
