After the Las Vegas Aces faced off against the Washington Mystics on Saturday night, Becky Hammon expressed strong support for A’ja Wilson’s chances of securing the 2025 WNBA MVP Award.
In 33 minutes on the court, Wilson recorded an impressive stat line of 36 points, 13 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist. She made 14 of 22 shots overall, hitting 1 of 2 from three-point range and 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Hammon shared her thoughts on Wilson’s performance post-game, as reported by journalist Kareem Copeland. Her enthusiastic endorsement of the standout forward was evident regarding her MVP candidacy.
“Anytime a media person has to ask a question, ‘who’s as good as A’ja Wilson?’ that’s where you start with the conversation, that’s your answer. That’s your answer. She’s top three in every major statistical category, but most importantly, efficiency. She’s number one in efficiency. And to me, people need to do that kind of homework,” Hammon commented.
“I know, at times I can look down at the stat sheet and I’m like, ‘oh s***, she had 36 or 34?’ Like, you don’t even notice because it’s become so normal. I told her that in front of the group the other day, I don’t shout out her numbers in front of the group very often, but like, I don’t want it to, I don’t want her to think I’m missing her. And I don’t want the world to miss her because she’s here, she’s right now, she’s in the prime and she is killing it. And, I don’t know, like I said, if she’s the conversation starter, she is the conversation.”

How A’ja Wilson and the Aces Performed Against the Mystics
Hammon’s robust support for A’ja Wilson’s MVP bid is justified, as the star’s performance was pivotal for the Aces’ 91-81 victory over the Mystics.
Las Vegas encountered a sluggish start, trailing 26-19 at the end of the first quarter. However, they rebounded by dominating the second quarter 25-13, leading to a 44-39 advantage at the break. This shift in momentum allowed the Aces to maintain control and finish strong to clinch the win.
Three Las Vegas players scored in double figures, with Wilson among them. Dana Evans notably contributed 20 points along with three rebounds, three assists, and a block while shooting 8-of-11 overall, including 5-of-6 from three-point territory. Jackie Young added 10 points and eight assists, while NaLyssa Smith chipped in eight points and two rebounds. Jewell Loyd also contributed eight points and three assists.
With this win, Las Vegas improved to a 24-14 record for the season, holding the second position in the Western Conference standings, trailing the Minnesota Lynx by six games for the top seed.
