In today’s basketball landscape, few players generate as much debate as Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky forward whose every action seems to spark intense discussion. Despite her critics, one undeniable fact remains: she ranks among the best rebounders in WNBA history, a point she further solidified with her performance on Tuesday, even amid the Sky’s significant 91-68 loss to the Lynx.
Reese contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds, extending her extraordinary double-double streak to 10 games. By achieving this, she became the first player in WNBA history to have multiple streaks of 10 or more double-doubles, according to the official WNBA account on X (formerly Twitter).
While the final score was lopsided, it would be unrealistic to expect the Sky, who finished last season with the worst record in the Eastern Conference, to challenge a formidable Lynx team that improved to 21-4 following their latest win.
Despite the double-double, Reese’s overall game left much to be desired. She showed efficiency by sinking four of her eight shot attempts, but her nine turnovers nearly resulted in a crippling double.
The Sky rely heavily on Reese to deliver various aspects of the game, including playmaking, but this expectation seems overwhelming, offering little in the way of winning results.
Nonetheless, Reese has already earned her status as one of the WNBA’s greatest rebounders. Regardless of any “meh-ounds,” the statistics are telling. She can dominate the boards, and her popularity may grow once she competes on a more successful team.
Sky’s Angel Reese is discovering her potential
Reese’s game is beginning to reflect elements seen in Julius Randle’s style; she is effectively handling the ball, distributing passes, scoring more efficiently than before, and maintaining a commanding presence on the boards. During her current 10-game double-double streak, she has averaged 17.4 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, with shooting splits of 50/11/81 — impressive figures, particularly when compared to her earlier performance.
For now, Reese might need to set aside the three-point shot. She’s also pushing too many passes, and it’s crucial for her to let the game flow more naturally. Nevertheless, Reese is swiftly emerging as an underestimated player with significant potential for growth, especially considering she is just 23 years old.
